2025 wedding dress forecast

2025 wedding dress forecast

Nothing could have prepared us for the effortless chicness that is to come with bridal fashion for the upcoming season. My stylists and I here at The Wedding Collective have all made bets on what we reckon we will be seeing next year- and after watching recent runways, I am happy to say I will be walking out this discussion a rich woman!

In all seriousness though- as we approach the upcoming new year, bridal fashion is predicted to reflect a thrilling amalgamation of nostalgia and modernity, capturing the essence of the contemporary bride.  We celebrate this evolution, highlighting trends that resonate with today’s savvy and stylish brides. Given that we pride ourselves in serving our brides the latest pieces in bridal fashion, trend analysis is part of our core operations at TWC. So of course, I was thrilled to share these insights with our beloved readers.  Here’s a deep dive into the top bridal fashion trends that will shape weddings in 2025.

BASQUE WAIST

This look is gaining serious traction with designers worldwide. To put it quite frankly, the resurgence of Basque waists in bridal fashion is set to be one of the most celebrated trends of 2025.

With particular reference to New York Bridal Fashion Week October, we have been seeing so many creative applications of this trend. Characterized by their elegantly contoured silhouette, Basque waists enhance the natural waistline while creating a flattering hourglass shape.

This style is perfect for modern brides who desire both sophistication and drama. And this is why our Alexandra dress by Wishbone and Ivory has our brides in a trance-like chokehold – we are all in love!

The popularity of this trend can be attributed to its versatility; it complements a range of body types and can be paired with various skirt styles, from ball gowns to sleek sheaths. The one legacy I am truly grateful for

PEARLS

The resurgence of pearls showcases a bride’s desire for a touch of tradition while embracing contemporary fashion sensibilities. Pearls are making a significant comeback in bridal fashion, moving beyond classic necklaces and into the realm of intricate gown detailing.

It was therefore a no-brainer to make sure we had stunners like our Veneranda and Laya by Elly bridal. The latter, with pearls lining the straps ever so delicately all the way along the edge of her bodice back, is an example of “less is more”.

Another noteworthy piece in our 2025 collection is the gorgeous Abrianna. We cannot wait to see her pearl buttons and pearl -studded tulle bolero incite joy within our brides! We expect to see this detail adorning everything from sleeves and bodices to veils and accessories.

Pearls symbolize purity and sophistication, making them an ideal choice for weddings. Moreover, the tactile nature of pearls adds depth and richness to bridal ensembles, allowing brides to make a subtle yet impactful statement.

Admittedly, the incredible “power of the pearl” as I now call it was not always obvious to me. This was until I met a (very passionate) mom-of-the-bride who almost threatened the peace of our studios, if her daughter did not say yes to our pearl veil, never mind the dress! My team and I have a newfound respect for pearls, I can tell you that.

OVERSIDED BOWS

Also borrowing from last season’s aesthetic, the oversized bow is poised to be one of the most striking design elements in bridal fashion for 2025.

Whether perched atop a gown or cinching a waist, these dramatic bows add a playful yet sophisticated touch.

Their bold statement aligns with the modern bride’s desire for a gown that captures attention and embodies personality. This trend is particularly appealing as it allows brides to showcase their unique style, adding an element of surprise and youthfulness to traditional silhouettes.

Honestly if I had my way, I would go around in an invisible cloak attaching a giant big bow on every bride’s dress whose wedding I attend!

So, if you haven’t already bought into this trend, you can count on us that by the time you leave our studios, you will be well indoctrinated.

The oversized bow really serves as a focal point, transforming a simple dress into a statement piece that reflects the joy and celebration of the wedding day.

HIGH NECKLINES

No one can convince me that a high neckline does not solve the world’s problems.

This trend is truly a personal favourite. High necklines are returning to bridal fashion, adding a touch of vintage sophistication to contemporary designs. This style creates a regal silhouette that flatters various frames while offering a sense of modesty.

In 2025, high necklines will be seen in various interpretations, from sleek halters to intricate lace. I cannot get over the high-neck, Chantilly lace body-suit worn as an accessory under a boob-tube dress – a creative solution if you don’t have the greatest relationship with the skin on your upper body.

The allure of such necklines lies in their ability to create a strong fashion statement while maintaining elegance. This trend resonates with brides who wish to embody both grace and contemporary style, making it a popular choice for formal weddings and sophisticated ceremonies.

It is also a go to for a winter wedding, or a nippy evening ceremony. So, if a traditional interpretation of this look as seen on our Clemency dress is not quite for you, perhaps you could give our Vogue-esque Lola halter neck a try.

And if you really want to push boundaries for a statement and unique look, I would absolutely recommend our new Abriana by Elly Bridal. This piece has a mock -collared tulle bolero that you can pop on and off to achieve a versatile look. (Can you tell what my favourite dress is yet?)

DRAPERY

The romantic nature of drapery is poised to take center stage in bridal fashion for 2025, characterized by its luxurious, flowing fabric that adds movement and dimension to gowns.

I can confidently say that this is probably the most coveted fabric manipulation feature in our TWC studios. Soft draping creates a romantic, ethereal feel, making it ideal for brides looking to capture a dreamy aesthetic.

This trend is particularly popular due to its versatility as well as its functionality. Manipulation of fabric through ruching for example, can be a fantastic way to take emphasis away from a slightly bloated belly and shift the focus to the pleats and textures of the fabric.

So, for all our brides looking to look snatched yet not miss out on that wedding potjie, consider opting for stunners like our Tobby by Olya Mak or our new Mila by Elly Bridal.

In 2025, expect to see drapery utilized in innovative ways, enhancing the visual storytelling of bridal wear.

DROP WAIST

This one has a special place in my heart. (If any reader here has seen my wedding dress, you will know why).

The drop waist silhouette is experiencing a revival in 2025, appealing to brides who favor a vintage-inspired look with a contemporary edge. This style elongates the torso and creates a relaxed yet chic fit, perfect for brides looking to blend comfort with sophistication.

The drop waist allows for intricate detailing and creative skirt designs, making it a versatile choice for various wedding themes, particularly the dramatic “go big or go home” bride. Honestly, this is why our Barry dress just never stops capturing hearts!

From experience, brides are almost always pleasantly surprised at how “snatched” they look after an initial judgment.  Its resurgence reflects a broader trend towards nostalgia in bridal fashion, as brides draw inspiration from the past while making it their own.

The drop waist design really offers a timeless elegance that resonates with modern sensibilities, ensuring its popularity for years to come.

If you are like me (a mompreneur wearing many hats and still coming to terms with the fast-approaching conclusion of 2024) the very least we can do about this whirlwind-like situation is to look forward to the new fashions!

This upcoming bridal season promises to be a stunning reflection of individuality, creativity, and sophistication.

At The Wedding Collective, we are excited to continue curating collections that embody these trends, helping brides feel empowered and radiant on their special day. Of course, as a slight caveat I always say, the best fashion is the type that makes you feel like the most beautiful version of yourself -whether trendy or not. With each gown, we aim to tell a story of love, style, and personal expression, ensuring that every bride finds her perfect match in this evolving landscape of bridal fashion.
